Herniated Discs

If you could gain X-ray vision and look at yourself, especially in the spine region, you would see things that were stacked between the spinal bones. Those are discs and they are cushioned with a gel that is inside. The gel inside those discs sometimes leaks and compresses nerves. This can cause problems to arise

.

People can have herniated discs and not even know it. However, when those symptoms do show up, it can make life aggravating, to say the least. Here are some of them that you should be on the lookout for. We at Cox Chiropractic Clinic in Charlottesville, VA, are here to help.

You Have Arm or Leg Pain

If you have pain in your arm area, this could indicate that you have a herniated disc around your neck. That pain, which can be either intense, could also affect your shoulder. The pain can happen when you make a variety of motions, including sneezing, coughing, or even just moving around.

Herniated discs in the lower back, tend to affect the buttocks, calf, or thigh. You might also have lower back pain to deal with, too. Parts of your feet may hurt, as well.

You Have Tingling

This can be a tricky one. People get tingling sensations for a variety of reasons. If the herniated disc is affecting a certain nerve, then you will likely feel tingling or numbness in the area used by the nerve.

You Have Weakness

Here is something that you really should watch out for. It can cause you to have weakness in certain body parts. That weakness can cause you to fall over or drop things. You don't want to get hurt from a fall due to a herniated disc. If you have weakness, you should get care quickly so you can resume your normal activities.

Some of these symptoms can point to more than a herniated disc. See a chiropractor to get a diagnosis so you can be sure that this what you have. Once you have gotten the go-ahead, you can seek chiropractic care.

Chiropractic Care

What can a chiropractor on our team do? Among other things, a chiropractor can gently stretch your spine to help alleviate those herniated disc symptoms. It's called spinal decompression. It can be used to help heal a herniated disc without the need of surgery. We can also provide a chiropractic adjustment, corrective exercises, lifestyle advice, and more.
